Welcome to the Prison Writings Project
Welcome to the Prison Writings Project.
Prisoners from across the U.S. send us their letters to be displayed on the internet. We digitize and upload the letters to this blog and share them with the world. In so doing, we hope to show the human face of the prison population and give the world a peek into what life in prison is really like.
None of these stories are censored in any way. We try to remain objective as possible and to act as an unbiased medium of communication for incarcerated Americans. As such, you may read things that offend you for a variety of reasons. We ask that you keep an open mind and recognize that each individual does not speak for the whole. We post these with inmates’ written consent, and are not liable for the content or any impact it may have.
It is also worth noting that prison conditions vary greatly from state to state and prison to prison. As we progress with this project, we will provide background information such as location, offense, sentence and history to as many of the authors as we can. We are currently in the early stages of this project, and will update you as more develops.
Finally, we would like to share these letters with anybody who is interested. If you are interested in referencing these letters for your own cause, project, or class just send us an email over tumblr.
Thank you,
The Prison Writing Project
